Introducing Electronic Ticketing - The First Steps
Electronic Ticketing is a method to issue, track and document usage of tickets electronically and thereby eliminate the need for the production and distribution of a paper ticket. Details of the passengers' journey is held in an Electronic Ticket Record in the Validating (Issuing) Carrier's database.
There are considerable advantages to introducing Electronic Ticketing. Cost reductions are possible since the paper form is reduced. Passengers need never worry about losing their tickets nor have to wait in line to collect a paper ticket since the electronic tickets are held in the carriers' database. All a passenger needs is an itinerary receipt and the mandatory ticket notices. Many functions can be streamlined and/or automated, for example more timely reporting of sales and flown data for revenue accounting.
